LOTTERY PREFERENCES

What is the lottery?

The lottery is the admissions process required by New York State that is held when there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. Students are randomly selected from all applicants for admission by lottery. Students who are not selected from the lottery will be placed on a waiting list.

Why does MVP use a lottery system for acceptance to the school?

NYS law states that if more applications than seats available, MVP is required to choose their students through a random admissions lottery.

Is anyone given preference in the lottery?

Preference is given to returning students, siblings of students, students who reside in the 24th Community School District and children of MVP employees.

When is the lottery?

The lottery will be held on Thursday , April 6, 2017 at 7:00PM in Christ the King High School Aditorium (door #4).

Does my child have to be present for the lottery?

No, applicants do not have to be present to be selected. The lottery is open to the public, and subject to state regulations to ensure they are transparent and equitable.

If my child is accepted, will he/she have to participate in the lottery every year?

No, students who are accepted into MVP will be able to remain in the school until graduation, provided they adhere to the school’s guidelines and policies.

Is there a wait list process for MVP?

Yes, after all the available seats have been filled by the lottery, MVP will continue drawing names of those applicants who applied by the April 3rd deadline and create a wait list based on the order drawn. The names of applicants who applied after the April 3rd deadline will be added to the bottom of the wait list for their grade. The school will maintain a wait list year to year. MVP will fill available seats from the wait list up to January 1st of the school year.

ADMISSION

How do I know if my child is accepted into Middle Village Preparatory?

MVP will notify you directly with either a letter or a phone call to let you know whether your child has been accepted. You will then be required to contact the school to finalize the enrollment.

If my child is enrolled in MVP, will his/her younger siblings also be able to attend MVP?

Siblings of students who are enrolled in MVP must still apply to the school. They will, however, receive preference.

If I do not live in Community School District 24, can my child still apply for MVP?

Yes, students entering 6th grade in September 2017 can apply for admissions. However, we first offer available seats to students living in Community School District 24 and their siblings and children of MVP employees.
